The Background

It’s three o’clock in the morning. His feet are like jelly. The room around him is spinning. Today, he became the privileged recipient of a unique gift, one that not every father merits. Today, he became the father of a precious new baby, an untainted soul, a delicate bundle, a gift marked ‘fragile’. The baby waits in his bassinet longing his father’s warm embrace and loving caress, the purity of his soul shining through his tiny blue eyes, twinkling in the light, a shooting star against the night sky. Radiant. Pure. Special. His father approaches, looks into his sparkling eyes and strokes his soft cheeks as the baby lets out a cry. His father’s heart begins to thump loudly, rhythmically, and then quickly picks up speed, faster, faster… Was that a desperate call for help or a gentle token of reassurance that everything will be alright?  His heart expands with all the love a father can have for a son, with the strongest desire to bestow his baby, of only a few hours, with all the good this world can offer. His heart then quickly contracts as he looks up helplessly wondering where to begin.  Where will he get the resources, strength, or know how to help this pure soul reach its full potential?

Dawn breaks and the first rays of yellow and orange appear on the horizon, the sun slowly rising, bringing in its wake a bright new day filled with opportunity. After being informed about The Special Children’s Center, the father wraps his special baby up and makes his way home, at ease, help is available. As the hospital doors close behind them, the doors to a new world of love, dedication, and giving are opened. They enter The Special Children’s Center.

Our Goal

This is not the only case where The Special Children’s Center is the ray of hope in the dark night. When a special child enters this world, he and his family are faced with a tremendous amount of physical and emotional challenges. They are overwhelmed by the strenuous journey that lies, foreboding, ahead of them. They feel alone, not sure which way to turn or what route to take. However, with The Special Children’s Center at their side, they are not at all alone, they are a part of a dedicated family.

The Special Children’s Center’s goal is to become a home away from home, providing the children and their families with the succor they so desperately need. As their extended family, The Special Children’s Center cares as only a family can, not just for now, but for life!

The Special Children’s Center is constantly there for the special child and their family. Available all day, every day, The Center’s staff is trained to get to know each child and family, to understand their needs and ultimately provide personal support and help at every stage. Each child is assessed and then monitored to make sure that each one reaches his fullest potential and meets the goals set forth for him. The Center provides services such as kosher group homes, respite programs, daycare, and summer camp. When a crisis, such as sudden termination of benefits, or a child’s unexpected illness or behavior, occurs, sending the family’s whole world for a spin, The Center is there to give a listening ear and to provide practical services. The Special Children’s Center is there as a safety net, dedicated to bringing happiness and showering the love that each child needs to grow and develop.

At The Special Children’s Center each child and family’s pain is our pain, their challenge is our challenge and their achievement is our achievement.

The Event

A Taste of Something Special:

On Sunday, April 26, 2015, The Special Children’s Center will be hosting an event with a dual program; a mega Tasting Event in conjunction with a Chinese Auction. At the event, there will be many vendors from some of today’s most popular kosher food brands offering you A Taste of Something Special. We will also be offering a variety of prizes at our amazing Chinese Auction.
